Lullabies

You know, today Chasten was fussing with me about trying to take a nap. So what did I do? I lied down beside him and began singing without thinking. Hearing my voice, he became calm and lulled into sleep. Since before he was born I've always sang. In the shower, while cleaning, in the car, pretty much all of the time. I knew that I would sing to him...I simply kept trying to figure out what song I would sing to him. I've tried several different songs: classic lullabies, the Phil Collins song from Tarzan, songs I've made up...but recently the one that he likes the best is a song we sing during play time (only slower and more like a lullaby):

My God is so big, so strong and so mighty
There's nothing my God cannot do (repeat)
The mountains are His
The valleys are His
The stars are His handiwork too
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty
There's nothing my God cannot do

While he was dozing off I started thinking how this could apply to our spiritual lives as well. Sometimes when God is trying to lead us in a direction that is best for us (like I was doing with Chasten and his nap), we put up a fuss. But when he speaks to us, that still familiar voice, we're instantly calmed and are much more receptive to do what it is He's asking of us. It isn't every time that His speaking to us is required, just days we're feeling like there's too much going on that we may miss (again like Chasten and his nap). And in those instances, it's wonderful to know that God will comfort us to let us know that giving in to Him is what is best.

It's funny, I feel like I learn so much more about my relationship with God through my son who is not yet 4 months old than I have in my 24 years of living. :)

That is one of mine and Kade's favorite songs!

^This is so true. Funny how it takes a little baby to get our attention sometimes!
